System Shock 2 perfected many amazing gameplay techniques. Limited ammunition, an upgrade system, a batshit crazy gun degredation mechanic and an inventory that is either Mary Poppins’ bag or the player is ray ban wayfarer actually a fork lift truck. You start off weaker than Han Solo just out of carbonite (which is pretty much how the game begins), and finish up armed to the teeth with the latest in expensive tech and psi s ray ban wayfarer kills. Ammo and health are also very limited, often forcing you to resort to good ol’ wrenchy and subsequently see the inside of the quantum regenration chambers a lot. (They function as checkpoints, but spend nanites every time you use them.)For the more sciency among us, there is also a research function. You can pick up alien offal and ‘research’ it by using chemicals from the various labs around the ship. While playing the game yourself, as an ‘enhanced’ (cybernetic enhancement, not male enhancement.) soldier of the future, you ray ban wayfarer come across many audio logs that tell different horror stories of other crew members, often in a genuinely disturbing way. You learn how the Von Braun went tits up and how most crew members became shirtless shotgun wielding freaks, and it has nothing to do with being a member of the NRA.So during the first flight of the Von Braun, a distress call is recieved from a nearby planet. The team sent to the surface is infected with an alien intelligence called ‘The Many’ in time honoured sci fi tradition, and these crew members merrily set around infecting everyone else with their new favourite parasite. Fast forward to the start of the game (after the comprehensive training missions), and our protagonist stumbles out into a desolate scene of derilict ship and deranged zombie crewmen, along with a host of other enemy types. You fight your way to the Rickenbacker, (a ship piggybacking on the Von Braun) and try to escape, only to become immersed in the vast fleshy mass that is the ‘Body of the Many’, now surrounding the ship. You fight some more and end up killing the AI SHODAN, which has been helping/betraying/unsettling you for the whole of the game. Presumably you then spend your days chilling with G ray ban wayfarer ordon Freeman, arguing about the benefits of a wrench as a melee weapon and never saying a damn word.
