Take 15 to Make Your City Clean
Starting on Earth Day, April 22, 2013 and continuing until April 28, 2013 Edmontonians ray ban wayfarer are encouraged to take 15 minutes to pick up litter, or report graffiti vandalism, by calli ray ban wayfarer ng 311 as part of Capital City Clean Up’s 15 to Clean Challenge.
“Now that the snow is melting, Edmontonians are able to see the effects of littering in our neighbourhoods,” said Councillor Ben Henderson. “By participating in a cleanup like this, we can all show we take pride in our city and want to do our part to make it cleaner and more livable for everyone.”
Councillor Henderson joined students from St. Pius X Elementary at Woodcroft Library on Thursday for a reading of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, followed by a cleanup with library staff. Cleanup kits are available at 15 Edmonton Public Library (EPL) branches.
“At the Edmonton Public Library, we share. And we share the responsibility of keeping our communities clean,” said Pilar Martinez, dep ray ban wayfarer uty CEO with EPL. “We encourage everyone to take just 15 minutes and to help make Edmonton on ray ban wayfarer e of the cleanest cities in Canada.”
The 12,000 cleanup kits, provided by GLAD Canada, contain a garbage bag, gloves, and instructions for reporting a cleanup. This year just under half the kits will also contain recyclable blue bags.
“Keeping Edmonton clean and safe is a shared responsibility,” said Don Belanger, program manager for Capital City Clean Up. “Dr. Seuss said it best when he wrote, ‘Unless someone like you cares an awful lot, nothing is going to change, it’s not.'”
Participants in the 15 to Clean Challenge are asked to report their cleanup efforts online, or by calling 311, for a chance to win one of two computer tablets.
