Surat civic body bags four awards under JNNURM scheme
The Surat Municipal Corporation created history by bagging four awards in various categories under the JNNURM scheme at function held in New Delhi on Thursday. The awards were received by Municipal Commissioner S Aparna and mayor Ranjit Gilitwala from prime minister Manmohan Singh. The SMC has also been given cash prize of Rs1 ray bans 2 lakh.
SMC received the awards for Best Performing JNNURM City, Impro ray bans vement of Financial Management, Inclusive Pro Poor Project ray bans Implementation and Seven Points Charter of Government of India. Civic body’s victory is due to its unpara ray bans llel growth in public and infrastructure projects and ratio of completion. Out of 34 projects sanctioned under JNNURM, the SMC has completed 11 projects so far, while other 50% projects are on verge of completion.
Civic body has spent Rs224 crore under the scheme so far, while projects worth Rs809 crore are under progress. The important projects completed include Sewage Treatment Plant at Anjana and Bamroli, Sewerage System at Adajan, Pal and Vesu, Water Supply Lines at Pal and Vesu, EWS Quarters at Kosad and Kankara Khadi Bridge.
“This is a moment of pride for Gujarat and Surat. We owe the success to the collective efforts of the BJP rulers, SMC officials and the state government. This is a morale booster for us and we will strive to work harder in achieving further goals,” Municipal Commissioner S Aparna, said.
